Dog Sweaters for the Cold Season

When it's cold outside, you love to curl up with a nice warm sweater and your dog is no different, there's a wide assortment of dog sweaters available in a very wide assortment of design, materials, and sizes.

When it comes to dog sweaters fit is essential. Make sure they're not too long, too short, or too tight. A sweater that is too long is going to interfere with outside duties, so make sure you don't purchase a sweater that is too long and if you do, fold it up when your dog is outside. Also, a sweater that's too tight can be difficult to get on and off, and make your dog downright miserable. Be sure that you measure the neck, the chest, the girth or the abdomen area, and of course the length before purchasing any dog sweater.

Dog sweaters come in a variety of fabrics, you'll be amazed at the lushness that a dog sweater can have. You can find wool dog sweaters, cashmere sweaters, and of course inexpensive sweaters for roughhouse play in acrylic, or other man-made fibers. Most sweaters are made to insulate your dog, and by purchasing a good quality one, your dog will be warm and comfy and you'll be surprised at how long it will last.

Acrylic type sweaters are great for those dogs who are a little bit rough on their clothes. They're inexpensive, fit relatively well, and if it gets too messed up, you just purchase another one. It'll still insulate your dog nicely, but just be aware, that it's not as warm as some of those made with natural fibers.

As far as design and color, they're such a wide assortment that you're going to find that it's almost hard to choose. You'll actually be able to find fashion and design sweaters in the latest colors for your pooch. Look to those fashion designer sweaters so that your dog can stay in style through the fall and winter season.

Be sure to make sure that your dog is comfortable when it's cold outside. Sweaters are a great way to help your dog keep their indoor coat, while allowing them to enjoy outdoor play and exercise. Those dogs who are continually outside can also benefit from a sweater, when the temperature really drops, a sweater can make the difference. Make sure that you watch the weather report for your outside dogs and put a sweater on them any time the temperature drops 10° below the normal cold temperature for your area.

Many dogs will enjoy a dog sweater during the cold winter months. Choose a sweater that fits appropriately, is in the latest fashion and design for the season, and make sure you have one for your outside dogs for when it gets extremely cold out.
